Summertime Activities for the Entire Family

    2 minute read

These are the days that children are day dreaming about their anticipated summer vacation. While they are thinking about all the fun and freedom that they are going to have, parents are usually brainstorming how they are going to keep their kids busy. Day camps and vacations can be expensive, so AIS has compiled a list of four summertime activities that you can enjoy with your children.

Backyard Camping– This is an activity that the whole family can enjoy. A large tent will run you around $50 and you are able to fill it with blankets and pillows from your home. Break out the family grill, make some hot dogs and s’mores over the fire, and tell either ghost stories or fun fiction stories. The best thing about camping in your back yard is that you can head inside if one of your little ones get too scared from your imaginative ghost story.

Check out a free concert– In most towns and cities, the city or state parks will offer free shows, concerts and firework displays for your whole family to enjoy. Grab a giant blanket, pack some drinks and snacks and head to the grassy hill for family time in the warm weather.

Go fishing– Even though fishing might seems like a summer staple, it is common for people to overlook this family friendly activity. Fishing rods and supplies can either be rented from a sporting supplies store, or they can be borrowed from close family or friends. Fishing is an easy activity to teach any age group, and it is something the children can continue into older age.

Go to a baseball game– Rather than shelling out the big bucks for a major league baseball game, check out the sports sections of your newspaper for the schedules of your local high school and college games. If your hometown has a local minor league team, their prices on tickets should be relatively low. Not only are the tickets lower in price, but the concessions are also at a more reasonable price, so it gives you an excuse to enjoy those hotdogs and Cracker Jacks.

Summer time can be used as a good opportunity to spend time with your kids, and it does not have to be expensive. With a little research and planning, it is possible for you to enjoy the summer weather with your little ones.
