Car Insurance Tips for Newlyweds

    < 1 minute read

If you just got married, Congratulations!!  I know car insurance is likely the last thing on your mind. But spend just a few minutes thinking about it and you’ll be happy you did. That’s because married couples on the same insurance policy can save big on car insurance. It’s just one more perk of getting hitched.

If, for some reason, you don’t want to be on the same policy, you can still save money just by letting your respective insurance companies know that you’re married. That’s because there is extensive data that shows married couples to be safer drivers – that means they’re a lower risk to insurance companies.

It’s also a good idea to add your spouse as a driver onto your car, and vice versa. While it may be counterintuitive, by adding your spouse you’ll likely save money thanks to multi-car discounts. Plus, it always a good idea to make sure you’re both a-OK to drive one another’s car in the eyes of your insurance company.

Finally, if you own a home, condo, or even if you rent, it’s a good idea to have your homeowner’s insurance, condo owner’s insurance or renter’s insurance with the same company as your auto insurance. That’s because you’ll probably get a discount by having multiple policies with the same carrier.
